Dorthiea Johnson
Mrs. Johnson paid a contractor to make needed repairs to her home, and then he left with her money and an uncompleted job.

That's where we come in.

Story of Iris Davis

The home of Iris Davis, 68, who is disabled and confined to a wheelchair, was made safe, warm, and dry through the Annual Rebuilding Together Work Day. Mrs. Davis has lived in her Valley Brook neighborhood for over 20 years and loves the neighborhood because she knows everyone and her church is located there. She does everything she can to stretch her meager income and is very proud of her home. The volunteer team that was assigned to Mrs. Davis's home was Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Morgan Green, team captain for Chapel Hill's team, told that Mrs. Davis cried when he told her they were going to transform her home. In addition to widening the bathroom door to make it wheelchair accessible, the exterior and the interior of the home were painted. The team also installed a new storm door, repaired gutters, installed new light fixtures, installed an ADA toilet and grab bars. Clearly, the improvements made possible through Rebuilding Together and Chapel Hill have made the Davis home a safer place in which she can continue to age independently.
